Hi there, BAF Family! My name is Nkiru, and I am the host of Conversations from the Diaspora, a Building Africa's Future podcast. I consider myself a lifelong learner and my commitment to education has led me to work in a variety of educational capacities. Since childhood, my siblings and I were taught to appreciate African history and contributions to the global society, and as such, that grew into my passion to learn more about the African diaspora as an adult and find ways to share this experience with others.
Building Africa's Future (BAF) was born on March 2014 on Facebook as a social educational platform to share different experiences from the African diaspora in an effort to bridge the longstanding cultural gap between continental Africans and others in the diaspora. This initiative was inspired after my solo trip to Nigeria a few months before graduating from college after so many years of living and growing up abroad in the U.S. I'd entertained the idea of hosting a podcast for some time, as I enjoyed interviewing people, moderating panels, and listening to the life stories of others, but like everyone else in the world during the COVID-19 pandemic, so many things had changed, and as a result, many of us found ourselves with a lot more time on our hands to develop our talents and work towards our different passion projects. In March of 2020, Conversations from the Diaspora, a Building Africa's Future podcast was born.
Conversations from the Diaspora is a podcast dedicated to telling stories and sharing experiences from the perspective of African immigrants of the millennial generation and other generations across the African Diaspora. To date, we have discussed a number of topics on the podcast, such as cultural identity, black maternal health, finding your voice as an African woman, raising children in the diaspora, and a number of other points of conversation. I hope you will take a moment to leave a positive rating for our podcast on iTunes or Spotify, subscribe (it's free!!!), and share with others. We look forward to hearing from you and getting your feedback on ways we can improve and what we're doing well!
